Do you need a personal organizer?

By Ellen Grace

Most of us are too busy for our own good. I know that I am. This is why so many want to find a personal organizer to help them out, but people often have no idea what type to get and what will work for them. For some, even an organizer can’t help them, as they have problems organizing the organizer, so to speak. They may be too busy to put the information in, and that means the organizer is pretty much worthless. That is why it is important to find something that someone can easily use and won’t confuse them or take up too much of their time.

Some are lucky enough to have a secretary to help them, and they really don’t need a personal organizer. For the rest of us though, we need something to help keep things straight. For a writer, for example, this is something that is important, or they would forget deadlines left and right. Though most of the time I can keep things in my mind, there are times when I must rely on a personal organizer. I don’t have anything fancy, but that is because I don’t have to use it all of the time.

Some like to get personal devices like the Blackberry for a personal organizer. Even a regular cell phone can help with these things, and that is what my husband uses for his personal organizer. He doesn’t have a huge amount of things to remember, so the reminder on his cell is enough for him. However, someone with meetings all day might want something more complex. There are some programs that work on computers, and those can then email a hand held device to remind of appointments and other pressing matters. He doesn’t need one of these, but he may in the near future.

I found that the best personal organizer for me is a sheet of paper. I don’t need much, and I can easily keep track with a simple notebook. I just make sure I buy one small enough to carry in my bag if I need to go out away from home. However, if that is not enough for you, you can find all sorts of programs, devices, and other contraptions that are made just to be a personal organizer. Shop around to see what is out there before deciding, as they are all useful, but not all are useful to everyone.

Cheap mp3 players every bit as good as expensive ones
When they first came out, I honestly thought that iPod MP3 players were just a passing fad. There were no cheap MP3 players at that point, and I couldn't figure out why it made more sense to get them than to just get a portable CD player. After all, most people already had their music on CDs, so all they required to have truly portable music was a CD carrying case. Even when the first low cost MP3 players started to come out, I still discounted them. I hadn't expected downloading mp3s online to ever become a legitimate thing, you see. I figured that it would wither and die as the RIAA put pressure on the federal government to crack down on illegal file sharing. I had never realized that one day it would become so mainstream.
